August 14, 2025: The lab celebrates passing qualifying exams, finishing summer research projects, and making great strides in the lab with dinner at Sahara Restaurant in New Brunswick.
July 2025: Emily receives the NJCCR Predoctoral Fellowship and NJ ACTS ASCENT Fellowship.
The New Jersey Cancer Commission on Cancer Research (NJCCR) funds cancer research focused on fostering fundamental creative discoveries, innovation, and improving health disparities in New Jersey. The New Jersey Alliance for Clinical Translational Science (NJ ACTS) supports the future generations of translational researchers by offering a rigorous training and multidisciplinary mentorship, ultimately to grow the clinical and translational research infrastructure across New Jersey. August 22, 2024: Maya Saez presents her summer research at the Rutgers RUYES Symposium.
Maya is a rising junior at Rutgers University-New Brunswick working towards a Bachelor of the Arts in Cell Biology and Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology. This summer, Maya worked under the mentorship of Dr. Shams testing the effects of S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) depletion on cell migration and colony formation in triple negative breast cancer cells.
July 31, 2024: Kelly Herrera presents her summer research at the Rutgers RISE Symposium.
Kelly is a rising junior at Rutgers University-Newark pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in the Honors College. This summer, Kelly has worked with Dr. Shams on determining the effect of inhibiting methionine-adenosyltransferase-2A (MAT2A) to triple negative breast cancer cells.
July 15, 2024: Dr. Shams receives the McBride Lab MVP Trophy for earning the INSPIRE NIH-IRACADA Fellowship.
The INSPIRE (IRACDA New Jersey/New York for Science Partnerships in Research and Education) Postdoctoral Research and Education Program prepares its fellows for successful careers as scientific researchers and educators, with an emphasis on supporting diverse undergraduate populations in biomedical science research fields. Dr. Shams is one of five recipients of the prestigious fellowship for her extensive research and mentoring experience. Congratulations, Dr. Shams!
